Grief and Gratitude for Earth Day: Embodied Journalling

If you are interested in getting contacted about upcoming workshops, please contact us via the contact form or email finding.our.footing@shaw.ca

Earth Day in 2025 can bring up intense and mixed feelings as we process all the losses while appreciating all that still is.

In this 2 hour workshop, we will use embodiment practices, journaling, sharing, and song to make space for us to carry grief in one hand and gratitude in another this Earth Day.  Making space to process our emotions in healthy ways helps us connect to what is important, and strengthens our capacity.

Francis Weller ~~“The work of the mature person is to carry grief in one hand and gratitude in the other and to be stretched large by them”.

Facilitated by Celia Laval.

The Work That Reconnects and the 5 Vows (Prayer Beads craft)

Learn more about the historical development of the Work that Reconnects - Joanna Macy's merging of group process, general systems theory, and eco-spirituality. Hear how experiences, learning, and global connections came together as this venerated activist leader and Buddhist teacher developed her ground-breaking, inspiring process. Discover the Five Vows of this practice and how they encompass the attitudes and behaviors needed to sustain the Great Turning. You

can learn about these vows, take the vows publicly if you would like, and create a prayer bead strand to help integrate them into your daily life.

The Five Vows are:

- To commit myself daily to the healing of our world and the welfare of all beings

- To live on Earth more lightly and non-violently in the food, products, and energy I consume

- To draw courage and guidance from the living Earth, the ancestors, the future beings, and the more-than-humans

- To support others in their work for the world and to ask for help when I need it

- To pursue a daily spiritual practice that clarifies the mind, strengthens the heart, and supports me in observing these vows

If possible, please bring 5 special beads to represent:

- healing

- the Earth

- ancestors, future beings, members of other species

- connection, spiral or circle

- spiritual strength and clarity

Donations of beads is also welcomed. We will have some options for those unable to bring their own.
